Combination of serum and CSF neurofilament-light and neuroinflammatory biomarkers to evaluate ALS

Alexandre Brodovitch et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the prognostic and diagnostic potential of Neurofilament-Light (Nf-L) and neuroinflammatory biomarkers in ALS patients. The combination of Nf-L, ICAM-1, and IFN-gamma levels show promise in differentiating ALS patients from those with Inflammatory Peripheral Neuropathies (IPN) with improved sensitivity and specificity. The measurement of these biomarkers in CSF and serum could be useful in the differential diagnosis of ALS.

High TG/HDL ratio suggests a higher risk of metabolic syndrome among an elderly Chinese population: a cross-sectional study

Guqiao Nie et al.

Summary: This study found a significant correlation between TG/HDL-C ratio and metabolic syndrome in the elderly Chinese population. After adjusting, TG/HDL-C ratio was identified as an independent risk factor for metabolic syndrome. A TG/HDL-C ratio of 1.49 was determined as the critical value for a higher risk of metabolic syndrome in the elderly, with optimal specificity and sensitivity.

The Role of High Triglycerides Level in Predicting Cognitive Impairment: A Review of Current Evidence

AlMa Mihaela Dimache et al.

Summary: The burden of cognitive disorders is substantial and varies in etiology and severity. Triglyceride levels may be associated with cognitive function, but not all studies have found this link. Further research is needed to evaluate the relationship between triglycerides and cognitive impairment.

Temporal Ordering of Inflammatory Analytes sTNFR2 and sTREM2 in Relation to Alzheimer's Disease Biomarkers and Clinical Outcomes

Jagan A. Pillai et al.

Summary: Inflammatory changes are key markers of AD-related pathological changes. Levels of sTREM2 and sTNFR2 in CSF impact AD clinical outcomes differently across different stages of the disease, with sTNFR2 having a stronger association with t-tau and p-tau in MCI and AD dementia participants and sTREM2 playing a significant role in CN participants.

Apolipoprotein A1, the neglected relative of Apolipoprotein E and its potential role in Alzheimer's disease

Kristina Endres

Summary: Lipoproteins, particularly ApoE and ApoA1, play crucial roles in neurological diseases. ApoE is a major risk factor for sporadic Alzheimer's disease, while ApoA1 is responsible for transporting excess cholesterol to the liver and possibly impacting brain lipid homeostasis.
