Amyloid fibrils act as a reservoir of soluble oligomers, the main culprits in protein deposition diseases

Alessandra Bigi et al.

Summary: Amyloid fibril formation and the release of oligomers cause sustained damage to neurons and glial cells, and enable diffusion between cells.

Kidney function and dementia risk in community-dwelling older adults: the Shanghai Aging Study

Mengjing Wang et al.

Summary: This study followed 1,412 Chinese elderly individuals for an average of 5.3 years and found that lower levels of kidney function were associated with an increased risk of dementia. The results suggest that GFR(crcys) may serve as a marker for vulnerability to cognitive decline.
