Prevalence and Determinants of Restless Leos Syndrome (Willis-Ekbom Disease) in an Older Greek Population

Ioannis Liampas et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the descriptive and analytic epidemiology of restless legs syndrome (RLS) in the older Greek population, with a specific focus on lifestyle indicators. The study found that the prevalence of RLS among the elderly was 6.1%, with a higher rate in females. Risk factors for RLS included female sex, anxiety levels, traumatic brain injury, sleep quality, and dietary habits.

Restless Legs Syndrome Shows Increased Silent Postmortem Cerebral Microvascular Disease With Gliosis

Arthur S. Walters et al.

Summary: Patients with restless legs syndrome (RLS) were found to have significantly more silent cerebral microvascular disease and gliosis compared to controls, in line with previous MRI studies. This suggests a link between RLS and hypertension, clinical stroke, and cardiovascular disease. T-cell invasion may be a secondary phenomenon, and there was no correlation between microvascular lesion load and RLS severity or duration.
