Mechanically Robust and Highly Conductive Ionogels for Soft Ionotronics

Manwen Zhang et al.

Summary: Ionogels are promising materials for flexible electronics due to their continuous conductive phase, high thermal and chemical stability. However, a large amount of ionic liquid is required to get high conductivity, resulting in a sharp decline in the mechanical properties. Therefore, it is a great challenge to prepare ionogels with both high conductivity and mechanical properties, which is important for their practical applications.

Modification of Hydrophobic Hydrogels into a Strongly Adhesive and Tough Hydrogel by Electrostatic Interaction

Guang Huang et al.

Summary: Synthetic hydrogels with hydrophobic interactions have great potential in various industries, but their aggregation of hydrophobic molecules inhibits adhesion to dry materials. This study presents a hybrid hydrogel with ionically and hydrophobically cross-linked networks, showing strong adhesion to various substrates and excellent tensile performance. The observed strong adhesion and high toughness properties are attributed to the synergy of electrostatic interactions and hydrophobic associations, making these hydrogels a model system for exploring the strong adhesion mechanism of hydrophobic hydrogels.

3D Printed High-Strength Supramolecular Polymer Hydrogel-Cushioned Radially and Circumferentially Oriented Meniscus Substitute

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: Developing a high-strength supramolecular polymer hydrogel-cushioned biomimetic structured meniscus replacement is a novel approach to address the challenge of providing reliable long-term mechanical and functional support. The combination of radially and circumferentially oriented PCL fiber framework with anti-swelling PNAGA hydrogel demonstrates superior performance in terms of energy absorption and cushioning function, outperforming conventional polyacrylamide hydrogel. Implantation of this scaffold into rabbit knee joints shows structural stability, efficient protection against cartilage wearing, and improvement in osteoarthritis development.

A Self-Thickening and Self-Strengthening Strategy for 3D Printing High-Strength and Antiswelling Supramolecular Polymer Hydrogels as Meniscus Substitutes

Ziyang Xu et al.

Summary: By utilizing a concentration-dependent H-bonding-strengthened mechanism, a self-thickening and self-strengthening strategy is proposed to directly 3D print latently H-bonding-reinforced hydrogels by loading concentrated NAGA monomer into low-strength PNAGA hydrogels. This method generates high-strength and antiswelling hydrogels, overcoming the trade-off between strength and printability.
