Engineering Electronic Band Structure of Binary Thermoelectric Nanocatalysts for Augmented Pyrocatalytic Tumor Nanotherapy

Yachao Wang et al.

Summary: The development of high-performance pyroelectric nanocatalyst, Bi13S18I2 nanorods, has shown promising results for augmented pyrocatalytic tumor nanotherapy. By utilizing pyroelectric conversion and photothermal conversion, these nanorods can effectively deplete heat-shock proteins in tumor cells, enhancing therapeutic efficacy of photothermal tumor hyperthermia. Synergizing pyroelectric dynamic therapy with PTT has led to significant tumor suppression with a tumor inhibition rate of 97.2%, showing great potential for therapeutic applications in biocatalytic nanomedicine.

Strategies for efficient photothermal therapy at mild temperatures: Progresses and challenges

Peng Gao et al.

Summary: Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a method of eliminating tumors through hyperthermia induced by photothermal agents (PTAs) under laser irradiation. However, current methods require long, frequent, and high-power density laser irradiation, which can cause damage to the skin and healthy tissues. In contrast, low-temperature photothermal therapy (LTPTT) can inhibit tumors through mild hyperthermia, making it more attractive and feasible. This article systematically summarizes the strategies for achieving LTPTT, introduces various organic and inorganic materials used as PTAs, and discusses the challenges and future perspectives in this field.

Synergistic SERS enhancement and in situ monitoring of photocatalytic reactions in a plasmonic metal/ferroelectric hybrid system by the light-induced pyroelectric effect

Daotong You et al.

Summary: This study presents a plasmonic metal/ferroelectric hybrid SERS substrate fabricated by integrating a pyroelectric functional layer with an electron/heat conduction layer. The substrate can effectively convert thermal energy induced by light into pyroelectric charge, enhancing the SERS signal. It also demonstrates the detection of ciprofloxacin in milk and real-time monitoring of photocatalytic reduction of p-nitrophenol. The findings indicate the potential of this pyroelectric-plasmonic hybrid structure for highly sensitive SERS substrates and energy harvesters.
