This paper proposes a methodology for reliability and risk analysis in the context of offshore dynamic positioning (DP) operations. It discusses two typical DP operation contexts and assesses various reliability analysis methodologies applicable to DP systems, including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis, Markov models, and Bayesian networks. The paper concludes with a discussion of future research directions and challenges in DP operations.
Technological advancements and the expanding scope of offshore dynamic positioning (DP) applications introduce new challenges in terms of safety and risk control. This paper provides an overview of a proposed methodology for reliability and risk analysis in the context of DP operations. Firstly, two typical DP operation contexts are discussed. Subsequently, a comprehensive survey is conducted to assess the reliability analysis methodologies applicable to DP systems, encompassing techniques such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis, Markov models, and Bayesian networks, which are employed to evaluate the technical and human reliability of DP Class 2 and Class 3 systems. Finally, the paper concludes with a discussion of future research directions and challenges pertaining to reliability analysis and risk management in DP operations.
