Salicylic Acid Priming Regulates Stomatal Conductance, Trichome Density and Improves Cadmium Stress Tolerance in Mentha arvensis L.

Abbu Zaid et al.

Summary: The application of phytohormones through seed priming, such as salicylic acid (SA), can enhance the quality of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) under heavy metal stress. In this study, priming menthol mint plants with SA was found to regulate plant growth and overcome the adverse effects of cadmium (Cd) stress, while increasing secondary metabolite accumulation.

Delineating genetic regulation of cannabinoid biosynthesis during female flower development in Cannabis sativa

Peter Apicella et al.

Summary: This study found that the steps for producing cannabigerol (CBG) could be the rate-limiting steps in cannabinoids biosynthesis, while upregulation of cannabinoid synthases was not critical. The cannabinoid biosynthetic genes are generally upregulated during flower maturation and different cannabis varieties may experience discrete transcriptional regulation. Additionally, the application of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) can potentially increase cannabinoid production.

HOMEODOMAIN PROTEIN8 mediates jasmonate-triggered trichome elongation in tomato

Bing Hua et al.

Summary: Plant hormones, particularly jasmonic acid, play a crucial role in regulating physiological and developmental responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. In tomato, JA affects trichome length by releasing transcriptional repression mediated by JAZ proteins. SlJAZ4 and SlHD8 are identified as key components in JA signaling for trichome elongation.

What is going on with the hormonal control of flowering in plants?

Takeshi Izawa

Summary: Using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model system has revealed various molecular mechanisms controlling flowering, including photoperiod, vernalization, autonomous, and gibberellin pathways. Recent studies suggest stress signals may be regulated by hormonal control of flowering. Comparing the rice flowering pathway with that of Arabidopsis thaliana has provided insights into the diversity of molecular mechanisms in plant species.

Characterization of the Cannabis sativa glandular trichome proteome

Lee James Conneely et al.

Summary: The study suggests that the floral tissue serves as the primary source of carbon and energy for the glandular trichome head in cannabis, supplying sugars that drive secondary metabolite biosynthesis. In contrast, the trichome stalk seems to play a limited role in secondary metabolism, acting as both a source and a sink.
