Construction of ternary Bi2O3/biochar/g-C3N4 heterojunction to accelerate photoinduced carrier separation for enhanced tetracycline photodegradation

Lijia Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, an innovative ternary Bi2O3/biochar/g-C3N4 Z-scheme heterojunction was prepared as a promising photocatalyst for efficient photodegradation of tetracycline. The inclusion of conductive biochar enhanced the separation rate of photoinduced carriers. The prepared Bi2O3/biochar/g-C3N4 heterojunction exhibited a high visible-light driven photodegradation efficiency of tetracycline, surpassing other binary combinations of materials. This research offers a potential approach for the construction of high-performance Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts for practical wastewater treatment.

Inferring the physical properties of La-substituted ZnO nanorods and nanoflowers for the photodegradation of Congo red azo dye

D. V. Dake et al.

Summary: The chemical bath deposition technique was used to synthesize unsubstituted and La-substituted ZnO nanoscaled thin films, with investigations on crystallographic parameters, optical properties, and electrical characteristics such as resistance. The effect of microwave irradiation on the photocatalyst properties of La-substituted ZnO samples was explored, along with the analysis of chemical stretching and band gap variations with increasing La content. Fluorescence spectroscopy was utilized to study the optical property and surface defects, while I-V characteristics were used to determine the visible light photosensitivity.

Photocatalytic removal of tetracycline by a Z-scheme heterojunction of bismuth oxyiodide/exfoliated g-C3N4: performance, mechanism, and degradation pathway

Hui Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a Z-scheme heterojunction of bismuth oxyiodide (BiOI)/exfoliated g-C3N4 (BiOI/ECN) was synthesized for efficient photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline. The optimized BiOI/ECN showed outstanding degradation performance, and the photocatalytic mechanism was attributed to the generation of reactive oxidation species. The study also identified the degradation pathways of tetracycline and found that the toxicity of photocatalytic-generated intermediates was significantly reduced. This work provides a promising photocatalyst for antibiotic removal and offers new insights into the design of heterojunction composites.

Graphene oxide aerogel 'ink' at room temperature, and ordered structures by freeze casting

Chunhui Wang et al.

Summary: A simple 'drop-by-drop' deposition method was invented to make graphene oxide hydrogels at room temperature, allowing for efficient control over the hydrogel shape and size without the need for heating or high pressure. This method enables the formation of stable hydrogels within a short period of time, which can be readily made into forms such as films, fibers, and aerogels.

Insights into the Adsorption and Photocatalytic Oxidation Behaviors of Boron-Doped TiO2/g-C3N4 Nanocomposites toward As(III) in Aqueous Solution

Like Ouyang et al.

Summary: The coupled adsorption-photocatalytic oxidation process using boron-doped black TiO2/g-C3N4 nanocomposite as a photocatalyst enhances the removal efficiency of arsenite contaminants by converting As(III) to As(V) and simultaneous adsorption. The enhancement of arsenic adsorption is attributed to the chemical complexation and hydrogen bond, with B-OH bonds playing a dominant role. The photocatalytic oxidation mechanism of the as-synthesized B-TiO2/g-C3N4 is attributed to the synergism of superoxide radicals, hydroxyl radicals, and photogenerated holes.

Magnetic field effect on the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange by commercial TiO2 powder

Yuecheng Bian et al.

Summary: This study found that a relatively lower magnetic field can enhance the photodegradation efficiency of commercial TiO2, while a higher magnetic field may suppress the efficiency slightly. The magnetic field effect is also dependent on the settling state of the reaction solution, and it is a ubiquitous phenomenon in the photocatalytic degradation process.
