Multi-species temporal network of livestock movements for disease spread

The analysis compares the node importance measures of single-species networks with a multi-species network, and suggests using contact chains to assess the importance of premises in disease outbreaks. Results show that key premises in the multi-species network differ from those in individual cattle and sheep networks, and the epidemic size is larger in the multi-species network regardless of the season. The measure based on contact chains can identify around 30% of key farms in a simulated epidemic, while static network measures only identify less than 10% of these farms.
