A Comparative and Sex-Specific Study of Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis and Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry for Estimating Whole-Body and Segmental Body Composition in Healthy Young Adults

Joachim D'Hondt et al.

Summary: This study compared the sex-specific outcomes of estimating segmental and whole-body composition using BIA and DXA methods. The results showed that BIA measured lower whole-body fat percentage and fat mass, as well as higher lean mass, compared to DXA. However, in men, BIA measured higher whole-body bone mineral content. There were no significant differences between BIA and DXA in arm fat mass for both sexes, but BIA measured significantly lower leg fat mass. Additionally, BIA measured significantly higher arm and leg lean mass. The study found strong positive associations between BIA and DXA outcome measures, except for arm and leg fat mass in men.

Machine Learning Models to Predict 30-Day Mortality in Mechanically Ventilated Patients

Jong Ho Kim et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the prediction accuracy for 30-day mortality of mechanically ventilated patients using machine learning algorithms. The extreme gradient boost model showed the highest AUC for the 30-day mortality prediction, followed by the balanced random forest model. The machine learning models outperformed conventional scoring systems in predicting the mortality of mechanically ventilated patients.

Explainable Machine Learning to Predict Successful Weaning Among Patients Requiring Prolonged Mechanical Ventilation: A Retrospective Cohort Study in Central Taiwan

Ming-Yen Lin et al.

Summary: An explainable machine learning model was developed to predict successful weaning in patients requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation, using real-world data. The XGBoost and RF models outperformed the logistic regression model in predicting successful weaning, with feature importance stratified by clinical domains.
