Quantitative analysis of hydrogen isotopes in hydrogen storage material using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Yubo Xing et al.

Summary: In this study, the quantitative analysis of hydrogen isotopes in hydrogen storage materials using LIBS and two different methods, internal standard method (ISM) and calibration-free method (CF-LIBS), was investigated. The accuracy of the measurement was improved through integral intensity correction and single sample correction. The results provide valuable references for the precise measurement of hydrogen isotope content in materials for applications in hydrogen energy, nuclear energy, and nuclear technology.

Elemental analysis of single ambient aerosol particles using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Paavo Heikkila et al.

Summary: Analysing the composition of aerosol particles is crucial for studying their health effects, sources and atmospheric impacts. This study introduces a novel method using size amplification aided aerosol charging, linear electrodynamic quadrupole, and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to analyze the elemental composition of single aerosol particles. The method shows exceptional performance for submicron particle analysis from low concentrations and has great potential for portable analysis in aerosol research.

Summary: A study on direct enrichment assay of gaseous UF6 using LIBS revealed that vapor pressure of UF6 is a crucial parameter for analysis, with signal-to-background ratio influenced by gas pressure and laser energy. Optimization of experimental parameters is necessary to reduce the impact of self-absorption on accurate UF6 enrichment assay.

Calibration-free analysis of a tungsten-based target for diagnostics of relevant fusion materials comparing picosecond and nanosecond LIBS

Alicia Marin Roldan et al.

Summary: The study of elemental analysis of plasma-facing components is crucial for understanding material erosion, deposition, and fuel retention. This work reports the quantitative ps- and ns-CF LIBS analysis of W-based model material (WCu), demonstrating successful detection and quantification of W and Cu spectral lines using different laser pulses. The selection of suitable laser pulses allows for more efficient surface ablation and better depth resolution.
