Value losses and environmental impacts in the construction industry - Tradeoffs or correlates?

Philipp Draeger et al.

Summary: Construction activities have significant adverse impacts on the environment, but producing precast construction components in manufacturing facilities can lead to a more sustainable construction industry. This article aims to examine the correlation between value losses and environmental impact using Cost Efficiency Accounting, a new measurement method applied for the first time in the construction industry. The analysis of data from a precast production facility indicates that high costs are related to negative environmental impacts, while discussing the implications for improving environmental and economic performance.
