Akin Menekse et al.

Summary: Additive manufacturing has great potential for new product and process development in various industries, including the automotive sector. Evaluating the different alternatives of additive manufacturing is a complex and uncertain decision-making problem due to the multiple criteria and subjective nature involved. This study proposes an integrated fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making approach based on Pythagorean fuzzy sets to assess additive manufacturing alternatives for the automotive industry. Objective significance levels of criteria are determined using the CRITIC technique, and additive manufacturing alternatives are prioritized using the EDAS method. Sensitivity analysis and comparative analysis are conducted to examine variations and validate findings.

Investigations on the Surface Integrity of Ti6Al4V under Modified Dielectric(s)-Based Electric Discharge Machining Using Cryogenically Treated Electrodes

Muhammad Umar Farooq et al.

Summary: The study investigates the potential of cryogenic-treated tool electrodes with modified and unmodified dielectrics in electric discharge machining of Ti6Al4V. Statistical analyses based on full factorial design of experiments are performed, and the cutting mechanism is found to be highly dependent on the surfactants in the dielectric. The desirability-based process optimization reveals that the modified process with surfactant yields lower roughness on the workpiece compared to the unmodified process, with the S-60 surfactant achieving the best results.

Performance evaluation of surfactant mixed dielectric and process optimization for electrical discharge machining of titanium alloy Ti6Al4V

Noman Asif et al.

Summary: Literature in recent years shows increased research interest in the machining of biomaterials. In this study, Ti6Al4V ELI grade 23 alloy, commonly used in biomedical applications, was machined using electro-discharge machining (EDM). The study investigates the effects of eco-friendly and biodegradable surfactant additives on material removal rate, tool wear rate, surface roughness, and overcut, aiming to achieve sustainable machining. Experimental design and analysis of variance were conducted to identify significant and non-significant parameters. The results showed improvements in MRR, TWR, Ra, Rz, and OC by approximately 41.7%, 75.3%, 55.3%, 47.4%, and 80.3%, respectively, with the addition of surfactants. Surface analysis revealed reduced surface cracks and voids with additive mixed EDM. The presence of oxides and carbides, particularly with additive mixed EDM, indicates the potential for developing bioactive surfaces with enhanced corrosion resistance and surface hardness.
