Effect of Secondary-Phase Precipitation on Mechanical Properties and Corrosion Resistance of 00Cr27Ni7Mo5N Hyper-Duplex Stainless Steel during Solution Treatment

Hang Wang et al.

Summary: The effect of secondary-phase precipitation on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of hyper-duplex stainless steel during solution treatment was investigated. It was found that the precipitation of sigma phase at lower temperatures resulted in brittleness and the formation of a Cr-depleted zone, deteriorating the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Cr2N precipitation at higher temperatures decreased plastic toughness but did not significantly affect the mechanical properties as the sigma phase. The sample treated at 1100 degrees Celsius showed the best mechanical properties and corrosion resistance as there was no secondary-phase precipitation.

Investigation of microstructure, mechanical, and corrosion behavior of nickel-based alloy 625/duplex stainless steel UNS S32205 dissimilar weldments using ERNiCrMo-3 filler metal

M. Tumer et al.

Summary: In this study, nickel-based alloy 625 and duplex stainless steel were welded using the MIG welding process with ERNiCrMo-3 filler wire. Mechanical, microstructural, and corrosion investigations were conducted on the weld metal, revealing phase precipitations rich in Nb and Mo. Corrosion tests showed that the least corrosion-resistant zone in the weld metal was the face pass, due to the formation of more intense intermetallics compared to the middle and root of the weld.

Effect of filler metal on solidification, microstructure and mechanical properties of dissimilar super duplex/pipeline steel GTA weld

Waris Nawaz Khan et al.

Summary: This experimental work investigates the effect of filler metal on the dissimilar weld between super duplex stainless 2507 and high strength low alloy API X70 steel. It was found that 309L filler produces skeletal ferrite morphology in the weld, while 2594 filler solidifies with precipitation of multiple reformed austenites in the ferrite matrix. Additionally, 309L filler weld exhibits superior mechanical properties, while 2594 filler provides better pitting corrosion resistance due to high chromium concentration in the weld zone.

Effect of Ferrite Proportion and Precipitates on Dual-Phase Corrosion of S32750 Super Duplex Stainless Steel with Different Annealing Temperatures

Wei Shen et al.

Summary: Through experiments at different annealing temperatures, it is found that the optimal annealing temperature for S32750 super duplex stainless steel is 1050-1100 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, the dual-phase proportion is close to 1:1, there is no obvious secondary phase precipitation in the matrix, and both the ferrite and austenite phases exhibit excellent corrosion resistance.

Duplex Stainless Steels-Alloys for the 21st Century

Roger Francis et al.

Summary: Duplex stainless steels, characterized by a microstructure of roughly equal proportions of austenite and ferrite, offer high strength, good corrosion resistance, and cost benefits compared to similar austenitic stainless steels. They can be used in various industries as a cost-effective solution in corrosive environments, and are expected to be a standard alloy for corrosion resistance in the 21st century.
