Experimental and theoretical study on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel by nonanedioic acid derivative in hydrochloric acid solution

Summary: The corrosion performance of mild steel in 1M HCl solution was investigated in the presence of a green corrosion inhibitor called nonanedihydrazide. The inhibitor showed high adsorption on the steel surface and acted as a mixed inhibitor. The corrosion inhibition efficiency increased with an increase in the inhibitor concentration and decreased with an increase in temperature. Theoretical computations using density functional theory supported the experimental findings and provided insights into the inhibitive mechanism of nonanedihydrazide.

Isatin Schiff base is an effective corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in hydrochloric acid solution: gravimetrical, electrochemical, and computational investigation

Summary: This paper describes the synthesis and characterization of a new isatin Schiff base (OHB) and its corrosion inhibition performance. The chemical structure of OHB was analyzed using spectroscopic techniques and its corrosion inhibition ability on mild steel in 1 M HCl was evaluated using electrochemical methods. The results showed that OHB had good corrosion inhibition, with the inhibition efficiency increasing with the concentration and decreasing with the temperature. Morphological analysis and electrochemical impedance studies confirmed the formation of a protective film by OHB on the surface of mild steel. The experimental and theoretical studies also revealed the formation mechanism of Fe-N coordination bonds in the adsorption film.
