The Significance of Plant-Based Foods and Intense Physical Activity on the Metabolic Health of Women with PCOS: A Priori Dietary-Lifestyle Patterns Approach

Aleksandra Bykowska-Derda et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the relationship between dietary-lifestyle patterns and visceral obesity and other metabolic parameters in women with PCOS, aiming to develop dietary recommendations for these patients. The study identified three distinct dietary-lifestyle patterns: Western, Prudent, and Active. The findings suggest that adherence to a plant-based diet and regular physical activity significantly improve metabolic health in women with PCOS.

The effects of high intensity-interval training on vaspin, adiponectin and leptin levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome

H. S. Aktas et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the metabolic effects of HIIT exercise on PCOS patients and its impact on adiponectin, vaspin and leptin levels. The results showed that HIIT increased adiponectin levels and led to weight loss and reduced cholesterol levels in PCOS patients.

Markers of insulin resistance in Polycystic ovary syndrome women: An update

Chantal Anifa Amisi

Summary: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder, which can lead to various comorbidities such as infertility, metabolic dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease. Insulin resistance is a prominent feature of PCOS and is associated with reproductive dysfunction, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. The development of convenient and accurate markers for early detection and assessment of insulin resistance is crucial.

Summary: This study examined the association between adherence to the DASH diet and levels of inflammatory factors PAI-1, MCP-1, and HOMA-IR in overweight and obese women. The results showed a significant inverse relationship between adherence to the DASH pattern and HOMA-IR after adjusting for age, BMI, and physical activity.

Effectiveness of a 6-Month Lifestyle Intervention on Diet, Physical Activity, Quality of Life, and Markers of Cardiometabolic Health in Women with PCOS and Obesity and Non-PCOS Obese Controls: One Size Fits All?

Zheng Wang et al.

Summary: Little is known about the differences in effectiveness of lifestyle interventions between women with PCOS and non-PCOS women. However, this study found that infertile women with PCOS and obesity and non-PCOS obese controls responded similarly to the lifestyle intervention, achieving similar improvements in markers of cardiometabolic health.

Metabolically Healthy Obesity (MHO) vs. Metabolically Unhealthy Obesity (MUO) Phenotypes in PCOS: Association with Endocrine-Metabolic Profile, Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet, and Body Composition

Luigi Barrea et al.

Summary: This study found that compared to PCOS MHO patients, PCOS MUO patients have more severe metabolic parameters and higher inflammation levels, as well as lower adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Additionally, MUO patients also exhibit more severe hyperandrogenism and cardio-metabolic indices.

Zheng Wang et al.

Summary: This study found no significant differences in dietary intake, eating behavior, physical activity levels, and quality of life between infertile women with PCOS and obesity and infertile non-PCOS obese controls. Despite the different conditions, the two groups exhibited similar habits and quality of life.
