The Effect of L-arginine Supplementation On Blood Pressure in Adults: A Systematic Review and Dose-response Meta-analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials

Farideh Shiraseb et al.

Summary: L-arginine supplementation has been shown to significantly decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in adults, regardless of baseline BP, study duration, gender, health status, and body mass index. However, no significant changes were observed with dosages >9 g/day, trial duration >24 days, or in obese individuals. Furthermore, L-arginine supplementation appears to decrease diastolic blood pressure more effectively in females than in males.

Association between Protein Intake and the Risk of Hypertension among Chinese Men and Women: A Longitudinal Study

Jingjing He et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between protein intake and hypertension risk in Chinese individuals. The results showed that at lower levels of protein intake, there was a beneficial association between animal, plant, and total protein intake and hypertension risk. However, excessive intake of plant or total protein may increase the risk of hypertension in the Chinese population.

Pulse Wave Velocity and Sarcopenia in Older Persons-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Karolina Piotrowicz et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the relationship between pulse wave velocity (PWV) and sarcopenia. The findings showed that sarcopenic individuals had higher PWV values and a greater probability of concurrent sarcopenia with higher PWV values. The study also suggested that increased stiffness of the aorta may be associated with sarcopenia and that sarcopenia could potentially accelerate age-related large arterial remodeling.

Greater protein intake at breakfast or as snacks and less at dinner is associated with cardiometabolic health in adults

Claire E. Berryman et al.

Summary: Protein intake at breakfast is inversely associated with blood pressure and positively associated with HDL-cholesterol, while protein intake at dinner is positively associated with insulin markers. Protein intake from snacks is related to lower blood pressure and cardiovascular disease risk.

Summary: High blood pressure is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease globally, and evidence from randomized controlled clinical trials is crucial for developing treatment guidelines. However, in cases where this evidence is not available, alternative sources of evidence are needed for treatment decision making.
