Developing a prototype landslide early warning system for Darjeeling Himalayas using SIGMA model and real-time field monitoring

Minu T. Abraham et al.

Summary: Rainfall thresholds are commonly used to forecast landslides based on historical data, but integrating real-time monitoring data from tilt sensors with SIGMA model can improve accuracy and reduce false alarms. The combined approach outperformed other models with a high likelihood ratio and area under the ROC curve, showing potential for developing an effective Landslide Early Warning System for the region.

Flash flood vulnerability assessment of roads in China based on support vector machine

Yufeng He et al.

Summary: The study constructed an assessment model for flash flood vulnerability of roads based on exposure and disaster reduction capability, using analytic hierarchy process and support vector machine to aggregate indices. Results showed high, extremely high, and moderate vulnerability areas, providing a foundation for precise evaluation of flash flood vulnerability of roads.

Bibliometric Analysis of Latent Dirichlet Allocation

Mohit Garg et al.

Summary: Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is an important algorithm in big data analysis that finds the group of topics in text data. Research interest in LDA has grown exponentially, with most authors and institutions from the USA and China. Text mining and machine learning are dominant topics in LDA research, with significant interest in social media.

A bibliometric analysis of the landslide susceptibility research (1999-2021)

Lei-Lei Liu et al.

Summary: Landslide susceptibility assessment (LSA) is a significant part of landslide research and plays a crucial role in preventing landslide disasters. This article presents a bibliometric analysis of 4,732 papers published from 1999 to 2021 in Web of Science, exploring the characteristics of abstracts, authors, institutions, countries, journals, funds, and keywords. The analysis reveals the increasing trend of LSA publications, identifies the productive performers in the field, and highlights the popularity of machine learning methods in recent years.

Factors related to the resilience of Tibetan adolescent survivors ten years after the Yushu earthquake

Ying Niu et al.

Summary: The study found that Tibetan adolescent survivors' resilience is at a moderate level, influenced by Tibetan culture and psychosocial factors. Factors such as learning competence, self-esteem, coping style, interpersonal competence, and earthquake preparedness have a positive impact on their resilience level.

Prediction of rainfall-induced landslide movements in the presence of stabilizing piles

Antonello Troncone et al.

Summary: A novel method is proposed in this study to evaluate rainfall-induced movements of landslides in the presence of stabilizing piles, using a water balance equation and motion equation. The method is attractive from an engineering perspective, as it can be readily implemented and requires few input parameters, making it suitable for predicting landslide movements in relation to rainfall scenarios.

Implications of terrain resolution on modeling rainfall-triggered landslides using a TIN- based model

E. Arnone et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of terrain resolution on hydro-geomorphological processes involved in slope stability analysis using a distributed eco-hydrological-landslide model. The results show that using irregular meshes can reduce the loss of accuracy with coarser resolutions in derived slope distribution compared to grid-based DEM. From a hydrological perspective, the resolution significantly affects soil moisture patterns and slope stability, especially when lateral water exchanges are considered.
