Evaluation of Electromagnetic Pulse Shielding Performance of Carbon Fiber-Mixed Cement Paste

Tae-Beom Min et al.

Summary: This study investigated the physical properties and EMP shielding performance of cement paste containing small-diameter carbon fibers. It was found that a 5% carbon fiber content showed effectiveness in compressive strength and EMP shielding. Increasing the thickness of the cement was more effective in improving the shielding performance compared to increasing the carbon fiber content.

Influence of carbon fiber on the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites

Gijoon Park et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical performance, electrical conductivity, and electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composite (HPFRCC) produced by incorporating carbon fibers. The results showed that the AC resistivity of the HPFRCC mixed with carbon fibers was strongly associated with the applied voltage, and that the dominant factor affecting electromagnetic shielding of the HPFRCC is the amount of carbon fibers rather than the electrical conductivity resulting from continuous connection of carbon fibers.

Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Anisotropy of Unidirectional CFRP Composites

Jun Hong et al.

Summary: The EMI shielding anisotropy of CFRP materials was investigated using free-space measurement, revealing that the fiber orientation angles affect the electrical conductivity. A predictive formula was proposed and validated through experiments, demonstrating the consistency of predicted and actual results. The study clarifies the mechanism of EMI shielding anisotropy in CFRP composites, paving the way for designing EMI shielding products with customizable shielding direction and frequency.

Development of Decision-Making Factors to Determine EMP Protection Level: A Case Study of a Brigade-Level EMP Protection Facility

Kukjoo Kim et al.

Summary: This study developed decision-making factors for classifying EMP protection levels and confirmed the natural attenuation effect of soil and the shielding effect of wet soil. By considering different protection levels and employing new materials with high shielding efficiency, mobile, lightweight shelters with effective EMP protection can be established. Adoption of differential protection measures can replace traditional heavyweight facilities and serve as a sustainable defense policy approach.
