Water absorption and long-term thermal and mechanical properties of carbon/glass hybrid rod for bridge cable

Rui Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance changes and degradation mechanism of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite rod under hygrothermal aging conditions. The results reveal that water absorption and diffusion behavior follows a two-stage model, and resin plasticization and interfacial debonding are the main factors contributing to performance degradation.

Effect of Washer Size and Tightening Torque on Bearing Performance of Basalt Fiber Composite Bolted Joints

Z. Sajid et al.

Summary: Experimental investigation reveals that washer size significantly influences the out-of-plane behavior of joints, while the combined effect of tightening torque and washer size enhances the ultimate bearing strength. Optical microscopy observations suggest that excessive crushing occurs in joints with large washer configurations.

Very high cycle and gigacycle fatigue of fiber-reinforced composites: A review on experimental approaches and fatigue damage mechanisms

Peyman Shabani et al.

Summary: This comprehensive review focuses on the high cycle and gigacycle fatigue of fiber-reinforced composite materials, categorizing different test methods and fatigue behavior, as well as presenting models for predicting fatigue behavior in VHC and GC regimes. The study also highlights the need for further investigation in certain areas to deepen understanding in the field.

Static capacity of tubular X-joints reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer subjected to compressive load

Hossein Nassiraei et al.

Summary: The study investigates the performance of tubular X-joints reinforced with FRP under compressive load using finite element models, showing that FRP can significantly enhance the stiffness and ultimate capacity. A theoretical formula based on the yield body model is proposed to predict the ultimate strength of X-joints with FRP, which is in accordance with the acceptance criteria of the UK Department of Energy.

Stress concentration factors in tubular X-connections retrofitted with FRP under compressive load

Hossein Nassiraei et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the stress concentration factors in X-connections retrofitted with FRP under compressive load using FE models. The results showed that increasing the number of FRP sheets and the elastic modulus of FRP can significantly reduce the SCFs. Two precise formulas for quantifying the SCFs in X-connections with FRP layers were proposed and checked according to the UK DoE acceptance standard.
