Characteristic of the production of hydrogen-rich combustible gas by pyrolysis of high-ash sewage sludge

Bo Wang et al.

Summary: Pyrolysis is regarded as a promising method for sewage sludge treatment and energy extraction. This study investigated the conditions and characteristics of high-ash sewage sludge (HASS) pyrolysis to produce hydrogen-rich combustible gas. The yields and characteristics of pyrolysis gas, tar, and solid product were determined, and the weight-loss behavior and kinetic characteristics were analyzed. The results showed that HASS mainly decomposed at temperatures between 540-901 °C, with a weight loss rate of 2.399%-3.372%& BULL;min(-1). The highest proportion of tar was naphthalene, ranging from 18.88% to 61.15%, and the major components of pyrolysis gas were H2, CO2, CO, and CH4. The most suitable condition for producing hydrogen-rich combustible gas was found to be at a particle size of 0.15-0.18 mm and a temperature of 800°C, with H2 content reaching 51.477% and lower heating value reaching 13.960 MJ & BULL;m(-3).

Co-Utilization of Sewage Sludge and Rice Husk in Ceramsite Preparation with Selective Adsorption Capacity to Pb

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel ceramsite was prepared using sewage sludge and rice husk as raw materials, and its adsorption performance for lead-containing wastewater was investigated. The optimal preparation conditions were found to be a mixture of 40% rice husk and 60% sewage sludge, a sintering temperature of 1190 degrees C, and a sintering time of 20 min. The resulting ceramsite exhibited excellent adsorption properties, with a removal rate of 94.7% for Pb2+. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model, indicating chemisorption. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the adsorption reaction was spontaneous and endothermic. The possible adsorption mechanisms involved the layered mesoporous structure of the ceramsite, the formation of a new phase with Pb, and the bonding between Pb2+ and aluminosilicates.
