The roles of Ce and Mn on solidification behaviors and mechanical properties of 7Mo super austenitic stainless steel

Runze Zhang et al.

Summary: The effect of Ce and Mn on solidification behaviors and mechanical properties of 7Mo super austenitic stainless steel was investigated. Increasing Ce and Mn can both improve the hardness by refining the microstructure. Ce shortens the solidification interval and reduces the s phase, while Mn reduces nucleation sites and promotes segregation of Cr and Mo, resulting in microstructure coarsening and high s phase content.

Effects of Rare Earth on Austenite-Ferrite Phase Transformation in a Low-Carbon Fe-C Alloy

Fei Guo et al.

Summary: It is found in this study that under low-oxygen conditions, the addition of trace rare earth elements can significantly influence the nucleation, morphology, and growth of ferrite in Fe-0.14%C alloy, by slowing down carbon diffusion and decreasing grain boundary energy. This research provides evidence for adjusting phase transformation and improving the mechanical properties of steels through the addition of rare earth elements.

Influence mechanism of boron segregation on the microstructure evolution and hot ductility of super austenitic stainless steel S32654

Jiangtao Yu et al.

Summary: The influence mechanism of B segregation on the microstructure evolution and hot ductility of S32654 at 850-1250 degrees C was systematically investigated. B segregation played different roles in Mo segregation, dislocation accumulation, and grain boundary migration, affecting the microstructure evolution and hot ductility of the material.

Refinement mechanism of cerium addition on solidification structure and sigma phase of super austenitic stainless steel S32654

Shucai Zhang et al.

Summary: The addition of Ce can significantly refine the dendrite structure and sigma phase of super austenitic stainless steel. The refinement mechanism involves effective Ce-bearing inclusions and solute Ce. Ce addition promotes the formation of finer and dispersed sigma phase particles and reduces the temperature and time required for high-temperature homogenization, which is beneficial for hot working.

Effect of Isothermal Holding at 750 °C and 900 °C on Microstructure and Properties of Cast Duplex Stainless Steel Containing 24% Cr-5% Ni-2.5% Mo-2.5% Cu

Barbara Elzbieta Kalandyk et al.

Summary: This study investigates the changes in microstructure and mechanical properties of two-phase ferritic-austenitic cast steel after isothermal holding at 750 degrees C and 900 degrees C. The results show that holding at 900 degrees C leads to increased hardness and elongation, but decreased ultimate tensile strength compared to holding at 750 degrees C.

Effect of Secondary-Phase Precipitation on Mechanical Properties and Corrosion Resistance of 00Cr27Ni7Mo5N Hyper-Duplex Stainless Steel during Solution Treatment

Hang Wang et al.

Summary: The effect of secondary-phase precipitation on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of hyper-duplex stainless steel during solution treatment was investigated. It was found that the precipitation of sigma phase at lower temperatures resulted in brittleness and the formation of a Cr-depleted zone, deteriorating the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Cr2N precipitation at higher temperatures decreased plastic toughness but did not significantly affect the mechanical properties as the sigma phase. The sample treated at 1100 degrees Celsius showed the best mechanical properties and corrosion resistance as there was no secondary-phase precipitation.

Non-destructive techniques for the detection of sigma phase in duplex stainless steel: A comprehensive review

M. Biezma et al.

Summary: Sigma phase, a deleterious phase in duplex stainless steels, can decrease mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Non-destructive techniques (NDT) such as ultrasound and magnetic methods are commonly used for detection, with other alternatives like electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (EPR) and replication metallography (RM) analysis. The trend for NDT applied to sigma phase, mechanisms influencing its formation, and consequences on DSSs are thoroughly discussed in this review.
