Ni(OH)2-Type Nanoparticles Derived from Ni Salen Polymers: Structural Design toward Functional Materials for Improved Electrocatalytic Performance

Monika Mierzejewska et al.

Summary: This study reports the electrochemical transformation of two Ni2+ salen polymers in basic media, leading to the preparation of nickel hydroxide [Ni(OH)(2)]-type nanoparticles anchored in the polymeric matrix. The electrocatalytic activity of these nanoparticles towards ethanol depends on the molecular architecture of the poly(NiSalen)s. Additionally, a direct relationship between the electrochemical stability of the poly(NiSalen) precursors and their transformation into Ni(OH)(2) NPs in aqueous alkaline media was observed.

Accessing the robustness of adventitious carbon for charge referencing (correction) purposes in XPS analysis: Insights from a multi-user facility data review

Mark C. Biesinger

Summary: This study assessed the usage and effectiveness of common charge referencing methodologies for insulating samples in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results. It was found that using adventitious carbon (AdC) as a charge reference gave satisfactory and meaningful results in 95% of the cases assessed. Electrical isolation of mixed insulating/semi-conducting/conducting samples was also shown to significantly improve outcomes.

Fundamentals and recent progress of Sn-based electrode materials for supercapacitors: A comprehensive review

Mohd Zahid Ansari et al.

Summary: Supercapacitors, being highly capable electrochemical energy storage devices, are widely used in various applications due to their commercial features such as high power density, long cyclability, rapid charge-discharge rates, and environmentally friendly nature. Among the electrode materials, tin-based materials have shown great potential for supercapacitors due to their unique features including multiple valence states, good redox chemistry, high thermal and mechanical stability, enriching conductivity, and long cyclability. This review summarizes the importance and contribution of Sn-based electrode materials in supercapacitors and discusses the role of different nanoarchitectures in the electrochemical performance. It also provides a brief history of supercapacitors and presents the association between synthesis, properties, and performance of supercapacitors, aiming to guide future research in suitable preparation routes for various applications. Despite the limited exploration of Sn-based electrode materials for supercapacitors, this review highlights their potential aspects, future perspectives, and challenges.
