BCLC strategy for prognosis prediction and treatment recommendation: The 2022 update

Maria Reig et al.

Summary: There have been significant advances in the treatment strategies for hepatocellular carcinoma since the last update in 2018. Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Current status of laparoscopic hepatectomy for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma A systematic literature review

Maher Hendi et al.

Summary: Laparoscopic hepatectomy is a safe and effective approach for treating hepatocellular carcinoma, including cases with cirrhosis. It has lower operative time, postoperative morbidity, and tumor recurrence compared to other procedures. Overall survival rates are also promising, making it a potential alternative to traditional open procedures.

Hepatic Resection Versus Transarterial Chemoembolization for Intermediate-Stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Cohort Study

Linbin Lu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the overall survival of patients with intermediate-stage HCC undergoing hepatic resection (HR) or transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). The results showed that HR was associated with improved overall survival, especially in patients with LDH levels higher than 192 U/L. Conversely, TACE may be more suitable for patients with LDH levels lower than or equal to 192 U/L.

Significance of liver resection for intermediate stage hepatocellular carcinoma according to subclassification

Masateru Yamamoto et al.

Summary: The study validated the prognostic significance of Kinki criteria subclassifications in patients with intermediate stage HCC and analyzed the role of liver resection in patients of different substage. The results showed that liver resection provides a better prognosis than other treatment modalities for B1 substage patients, while alternative approaches are needed for B2 and B3 substage patients.
