The effect of terahertz laser field on the optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes of hyperbolic confinement quantum wells

Chunling Wu et al.

Summary: In this paper, the potential profile under the influence of a terahertz laser field is deduced and the variations of optical absorption coefficients and optical refraction index changes are studied. The results show that these optical properties are regulated by the terahertz laser field, and the intensity of incident light also has an influence on them.

Generalized semiconfined harmonic oscillator model with a position-dependent effective mass

C. Quesne

Summary: A semiconfined harmonic oscillator model with a position-dependent mass and the same spectrum as the standard harmonic oscillator is easily constructed using a point canonical transformation. The model can be further generalized by considering a position-independent parameter and deriving the associated semiconfined potential.

Investigating the valence-band bound states in GaAs/GaAsSb/GaAs V-shaped quantum wells: The role of intense laser fields and position-dependent effective mass

Sara Maleki et al.

Summary: This theoretical study investigates the valence-band electronic features in GaAs/GaAsSb/GaAs V-shaped quan-tum wells. It extends an analytical relation on the position-dependent effective mass in the GaAsSb well region and uses the Finite Element Method and effective mass approximation to study the combined effects of a non-resonant high-frequency intense laser field and an applied electric field. The results show that laser-dressing can alter the potential profile and convert a single-well to a double-well. The combined effects of intense laser and electric fields can lead to a conversion from a symmetric well to a larger and shallower asymmetric structure. The valence-band energy levels exhibit pronounced blueshifts and redshifts with increasing strength of the laser field and electric field, respectively. The electronic properties in valence-band quantum wells can be modulated by varying the well half-width and the antimony concentration.

Electronic band structure and optical properties of GaAsSb/GaAs for optoelectronic device applications: A 14 band k.p study

Arvind Sharma et al.

Summary: The band structure of GaAsSb/GaAs material was calculated using a 14-band model, showing that increasing Sb content results in a reduction of the bandgap and improvement of optical gain. The analysis also determined the effect of antimony composition on electron and hole effective mass, leading to the determination of intrinsic carrier concentration.

Effects of intense laser field and position dependent effective mass in Razavy quantum wells and quantum dots

E. Kasapoglu et al.

Summary: By using effective mass and parabolic band approximations, the effects of position-dependent effective mass and non-resonant intense laser field on absorption corrections and changes in refraction index coefficients for intersubband transition in Razavy-like quantum structures were investigated. The study extended to spherical quantum dots, showing how parameter combinations can lead to different structural configurations.

Electron mobility in asymmetric coupled AlxGa1-xAs parabolic quantum well structure - Impact of external electric field

Narayan Sahoo et al.

Summary: By varying the doping concentration, we studied the impact of an external electric field on electron mobility in an asymmetric quantum well. Results show that increasing the external electric field enhances electron mobility through intersubband interaction, while increasing the quantum well width or central barrier width also enhances electron mobility in the absence of the external electric field.

Summary: This study investigates the intersubband optical absorption coefficients in double-graded quantum wells with constant effective mass and position-dependent effective mass under different applied magnetic fields. Calculation results show that the optical characteristics of these structures are greatly affected by the applied magnetic field, structure parameters, and PDEM, with a significant impact on the location of resonant peaks of OACs.

External fields controlling the nonlinear optical properties of quantum cascade laser based on staircase-like quantum wells

Hassen Dakhlaoui et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the nonlinear optical properties of AlxGa1-x AsGaAs staircase-like quantum wells heterostructure under the effects of electric, magnetic, and intense laser fields. The study shows that the applied external fields have a significant impact on the energy levels and intersubband transitions, resulting in changes in optical absorption coefficient and refractive index that can be blue shifted or red shifted depending on the field parameters. Intriguingly, the application of a magnetic field can induce either red or blue shift, offering potential for designing optoelectronic devices operating in the red and blue domains.

Exact solution of the semiconfined harmonic oscillator model with a position-dependent effective mass

E. I. Jafarov et al.

Summary: A new model of a one-dimensional nonrelativistic canonical quantum harmonic oscillator with semiconfinement is proposed, where the wavefunctions of stationary states are expressed using generalized Laguerre polynomials. The energy spectrum surprisingly overlaps completely with that of the standard oscillator, and the wavefunctions tend to Hermite polynomials as the semiconfinement parameter goes to infinity.
