To Conserve, or Not to Conserve: A Review of Nonconservative Theories of Gravity

Hermano Velten et al.

Summary: Extended theories of gravity beyond the conservative framework of general relativity have become popular in recent years, aiming to describe the phenomenology of dark matter and dark energy. While many of these theories attempt to preserve the conservative property of the energy-momentum tensor, some unavoidably have non-trivial conservation laws as part of their structure when no extra constraint is available.

Canonical analysis of Brans-Dicke theory addresses Hamiltonian inequivalence between the Jordan and Einstein frames

Gabriele S. J. Gionti

Summary: This study explores the Jordan and Einstein frames in the context of Hamiltonian formalism, analyzing the Brans-Dicke theory using Dirac's constraint theory. Contrary to popular belief, the Weyl transformation between these frames is not considered a canonical transformation in the Hamiltonian formalism, highlighting quantum mechanical inequivalence. Additionally, a canonical transformation is demonstrated in the study.
