Triglyceride-glucose index and triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio as potential cardiovascular disease risk factors: an analysis of UK biobank data

Bizhong Che et al.

Summary: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio, two simple surrogate indicators of insulin resistance, are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in European populations. The elevated risk is largely mediated by a higher prevalence of dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension.

Saponin-rich extract of Tribulus terrestris alleviates systemic inflammation and insulin resistance in dietary obese female rats: Impact on adipokine/hormonal disturbances

Summary: This study examines the potential therapeutic effect of a saponin-rich extract of Tribulus terrestris (TTS) on dietary obesity in female rats. The results show that TTS can control inflammatory burden, improve insulin resistance and body weight gain, and ameliorate reproductive system pathologies.

Triglyceride-glucose index as a marker in cardiovascular diseases: landscape and limitations

Li-Chan Tao et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the history of the use of the TyG index as a surrogate marker for insulin resistance (IR) and explores its application value in various types of cardiovascular disease (CVD), as well as the potential limitations of using this index as a predictor for cardiovascular events. The aim is to provide more extensive and precise supporting evidence to improve its application value in CVD.

Association of triglyceride glucose index with all-cause and cause-specific mortality among middle age and elderly US population

Min Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and all-cause and cause-specific mortality in middle age and elderly population. The results showed that the TyG index was U-shaped associated with all-cause mortality and the TyG index of 9.18 was associated with the lowest risk of all-cause mortality.

High triglyceride-glucose index in young adulthood is associated with incident cardiovascular disease and mortality in later life: insight from the CARDIA study

Xinghao Xu et al.

Summary: This study found that higher baseline TyG index levels and higher long-term trajectory of TyG index during young adulthood were significantly associated with an increased risk of incident CVD events and all-cause mortality in later life.

Relationship between the triglyceride-glucose index and risk of cardiovascular diseases and mortality in the general population: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Xiao Liu et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that a higher TyG index is associated with increased incidence of coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, and composite cardiovascular disease in the general population. However, there is no association between the TyG index and mortality. There is a potential linear association between the TyG index and the risk of coronary artery disease and composite cardiovascular disease incidence. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings, especially in non-Asians.

Evaluating Triglyceride and Glucose Index as a Simple and Easy-to-Calculate Marker for All-Cause and Cardiovascular Mortality

Kyung-Soo Kim et al.

Summary: The TyG index is associated with an increased risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, especially in women. However, in men, the TyG index is associated with a decreased risk of all-cause mortality. The association between the TyG index and cardiovascular mortality is not statistically significant in either men or women.

Combined association of triglyceride-glucose index and systolic blood pressure with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among the general population

Yu Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, different systolic blood pressure (SBP) levels, and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. The findings suggest that a combination of low TyG index and low SBP (< 120 mmHg and < 130 mmHg) is associated with a lower risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. However, no survival benefit was observed in the combined group with low TyG index and SBP < 140 mmHg.

Xiao-cong Liu et al.

Summary: The study found a non-linear relationship between TyG index and the risk of all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality, with threshold values of 9.36 and 9.52. Above these threshold points, TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of mortality.
