Global changes in maternity care provision during the COVID-19 pandemic: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Rosemary Townsend et al.

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a decrease in antenatal clinic visits and unscheduled care visits per week, with an increase in virtual antenatal care and hospitalization of unscheduled attendees. The use of general anesthesia for category 1 Caesarean sections decreased, and there was no significant change in intrapartum epidural use or general anesthesia for elective CS. The global impact of reduced maternity healthcare-seeking and provision during the pandemic may contribute to worsening pregnancy outcomes.
