Multiplex microdisk biosensor based on simultaneous intensity and phase detection

Johannes Blaesi et al.

Summary: Future healthcare and precision medicine require multiplex and reliable biosensors. We present a compact photonic crystal based microdisk biosensor that enables simultaneous intensity and phase measurements of multiple biomarkers in parallel. The combination of two different measurement approaches offers advantages in terms of signal-to-noise ratios and alignment of the sensor. The performance of the biosensor system is evaluated through simulations and experimental measurements, demonstrating its potential for detecting biomolecular interactions.

Detection of fluorescence-labeled DNA with in-plane organic optoelectronic devices

Igor Titov et al.

Summary: We present a system efficiency analysis of a monolithic integrated organic optoelectronic unit for the detection of fluorescence labeled single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) for veterinary disease testing. The integration of an organic light emitting diode (OLED) and an organic photodetector (OPD) has the potential to enable compact and low-cost fluorescence point-of-care devices.

Whole Blood Thrombin Generation in Severely Injured Patients Requiring Massive Transfusion

Julia R. Coleman et al.

Summary: In trauma patients, overall thrombin generation is stronger compared to healthy volunteers, but it is depressed in patients with shock and massive transfusion requirement. Whole blood thrombin generation can effectively predict the need for massive transfusion in trauma patients.

Near cut-off wavelength operation of resonant waveguide grating biosensors

Balint Kovacs et al.

Summary: Numerical simulations and analytical calculations were conducted to support the design of grating-coupled planar optical waveguides for biological sensing. The study focused on near cut-off and far from cut-off modes, comparing their characteristics and suitability for sensing. The results suggest that the proposed device's operating wavelength and sensitivity can be tuned by varying the geometrical parameters of the corrugated waveguide, potentially leading to the development of highly sensitive integrated sensors with cost-effective designs.
