Reduction of spherical and chromatic aberration in axial-scanning optical systems with tunable lenses

James A. Strother

Summary: This study develops an analytical approximation for predicting tuning-induced spherical and axial chromatic aberration in optical systems containing a tunable lens element. The model shows that correcting both aberrations can be achieved by controlling specific parameters. These insights are used to design an axial-scanning microscope system with high numerical aperture and diffraction-limited performance.

In vivo calcium imaging reveals disordered interictal network dynamics in epileptic stxbp1b zebrafish

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: STXBP1 mutations are linked to various neurological disorders, and abnormal neural network activity under this mutation could play a key role in epileptic network formation. Using a zebrafish model combined with calcium imaging and electrophysiology recordings helps uncover this process.

Electrically tunable lenses - eliminating mechanical axial movements during high-speed 3D live imaging

Christoforos Efstathiou et al.

Summary: Electrically tunable lenses (ETLs) are liquid lenses with shape-changing capabilities that enable fast focusing and have been applied in various cell biology studies. Despite being cost-effective, ETLs are a powerful contender for high-speed three-dimensional imaging in the millisecond regime.
