Diffusion of OXA-48 carbapenemase among urinary isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae in non-hospitalized elderly patients

Sandra Suto et al.

Summary: This study reveals the rapid spread and extensive diffusion of OXA-48 carbapenemase in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) and the community population in Zagreb County. It suggests possible transmission from hospitals and horizontal gene transfer between unrelated isolates responsible for the epidemic spread of OXA-48 carbapenemase. The findings highlight the shortcomings in infection control measures.

Effect of calcination temperature on morphology and phase transformation of MnO2 nanoparticles: A step towards green synthesis for reactive dye adsorption

Tanaswini Patra et al.

Summary: In this study, green synthesis of manganese oxide nanoparticles using Acacia Concinna fruit extract was conducted for the removal of reactive dye. The morphology of the nanoparticles was affected by the calcination temperature, with α-MnO2 and Mn3O4 nanoparticles synthesized at different temperatures. Various characterization techniques were employed to analyze the nanoparticles. The adsorption efficiency of MnO2 nanoparticles for Reactive Blue 21 dye was found to be 98% at pH 3.0, following pseudo second order kinetics and fitting well with the Freundlich isotherm model.

Understanding Alkali Contamination in Colloidal Nanomaterials to Unlock Grain Boundary Impurity Engineering

Se-Ho Kim et al.

Summary: Metal nanogels possess a large surface area, high structural stability, and high catalytic activity, which are determined by the atomic-level distribution of their constituents. However, analyzing their subnanoscale structure and composition for property optimization is challenging. In this study, Pd nanogels were synthesized and an analysis revealed that impurities from the reactants integrated into the grain boundaries, which are typically sites of high catalytic activity. The level of impurities was found to be controlled by the reaction conditions, offering opportunities for designing new nanogels.
