Transient Redox Behavior of a NH3-SCR Cu-CHA SCR Catalyst: Effect of O2 Feed Content Variation

Nicole Daniela Nasello et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of oxygen feed content variation on the conversion of NOx and the formation of N2O over a Cu-CHA catalyst under Standard SCR reaction conditions. The results show that increasing the oxygen feed content leads to higher NOx conversion and N2O formation. The study also reveals that the formation of N2O is sensitive to changes in oxygen concentration and is influenced by temperature and oxygen feed content.

On the various Cu-redox pathways and O2-mediated Bronsted-to-Lewis adsorbed-NH3 redistribution under SCR half-cycle conditions

Dhruba J. Deka et al.

Summary: In this study, the SCR reaction on Cu-SSZ-13 was investigated through experiments and kinetic modeling. It was found that RHC requires the simultaneous presence of NO and NH3, while OHC requires both NO and O2. Additionally, a previously unreported H2O-mediated OHC pathway was discovered.

A Transient-Response methodology based on experiments and modeling for Cu-Redox Half-Cycle kinetic analysis on a Cu-SSZ-13 SCR catalyst

Dhruba J. Deka et al.

Summary: The study developed a transient-response methodology for studying individual SCR Cu-redox half cycles. The methodology allows quantification of various parameters and provides insights into the reaction pathways and activation energies. The results demonstrate that OHC increases faster than RHC with temperature, and RHC limits the SCR process except at the lowest temperature.

Dynamic Binuclear CuII Sites in the Reduction Half-Cycle of Low-Temperature NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA Catalysts

Wenshuo Hu et al.

Summary: Cu-exchanged chabazite zeolite (Cu-CHA) is an efficient catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx, and the dynamic cycling of Cu cations plays an important role in the SCR process. Cu cations are activated by forming Cu-NH3 complexes through reaction with NH3 under low-temperature conditions, and they exhibit homogeneous features in the heterogeneous catalytic process of low-temperature SCR. These features are influenced by electrostatic interactions between Cu cations and conjugate Al centers.

Kinetic Model for the Reduction of CuIISites by NO + NH3 and Reoxidation of NH3-Solvated CuISites by O2and NO in Cu-SSZ-13

Rohil Daya et al.

Summary: In this study, a kinetic model is developed for the reduction and oxidation reactions of Cu sites in Cu-SSZ-13. The rate parameters of these reactions are investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and spatially resolved mass spectrometry. The model is validated with experimental measurements and successfully predicts the formation and consumption of nitrogen oxides. NH3 release is observed during the oxidation reaction at low temperatures, and the presence of NH3 negatively affects the catalyst's activity. This study provides important insights into the reduction and oxidation mechanisms of Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts.

Mechanism of Standard NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA via NO+ and HONO Intermediates

Chong Liu et al.

Summary: The mechanism of the selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH3 over Cu-CHA zeolite was investigated using in situ/operando IR experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Experimental results showed the formation of NO+ intermediates, while DFT calculations indicated that Cu sites and Brønsted acid sites played important roles in the reduction half-cycle of NH3-SCR. In this proposed half-cycle, CuII sites activated NO into NO+/HONO intermediates, which then reacted with NH3 over Brønsted acid sites to produce N-2 and H2O.

Transient Kinetic Analysis of Low-Temperature NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA Catalysts Reveals a Quadratic Dependence of Cu Reduction Rates on CuII

Federica Gramigni et al.

Summary: NO and NH3 can readily reduce CuII at low temperatures according to a 1:1:1:1 stoichiometry over Cu-CHA catalysts. The reduction rates of Cu-II show a quadratic dependence on Cu-II, suggesting a dinuclear-Cu-II mediated RHC pathway. Water significantly inhibits the Cu-II reduction rate in the reaction cascade.
