Molecular Catalysts for the Reductive Homocoupling of CO2 towards C2+ Compounds

Hong-Qing Liang et al.

Summary: The conversion of CO2 into multicarbon compounds offers the possibility to create carbon-neutral fuels or other valuable products. So far, most studies have focused on heterogeneous metallic catalysts, but the potential of molecular catalysts is still underexplored. This Minireview summarizes recent progress in the thermo- and electrochemical reductive homocoupling of CO2 mediated by molecular catalysts and discusses the use of CO homocoupling as a model for further conversion of intermediates obtained from CO2 reduction.

Non-Aqueous Liquid Phase Synthesis of Acetic Acid via Ionic Liquid Promoted Homogeneous Carbonylation of Methanol over Ir(III) Catalysts

Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a non-aqueous liquid phase synthesis of acetic acid was achieved by ionic liquid promoted homogeneous carbonylation of methanol. The catalyst system demonstrated high selectivity and conversion rate under mild reaction conditions. The Tf2N- in the ionic liquid formed a complex with Ir, enhancing the stability of the catalyst and the activation of CO. The research results suggest that the ionic liquid promoted catalyst system has potential for a non-aqueous liquid phase sustainable process.

Homogeneous (De)hydrogenative Catalysis for Circular Chemistry - Using Waste as a Resource

Amit Kumar et al.

Summary: The increasing production and usage of consumer products and energy sources have led to the accumulation of toxic waste products, posing a severe threat to the planet. The concept of circular chemistry proposes the utilization of waste products as feedstocks for useful chemicals, with catalytic (de)hydrogenation being a green and sustainable approach. Studies on homogeneous catalytic (de)hydrogenation have shown potential to convert chemical wastes into valuable resources, with examples including CO2, N2O, plastics, and glycerol as waste materials for transformation.

Insight into Acetic Acid Synthesis from the Reaction of CH4 and CO2

Chunyan Tu et al.

Summary: This article critically assesses the progress of the catalytic reaction of CH4 and CO2 to produce acetic acid, focusing on identifying and constructing active sites. The differences in metal oxidation state can affect the activation of CH4 and CO2, thereby changing the efficiency of the reaction. By modifying the active sites and transition states through metal site placement, framework environment, and acid site promotion, the efficiency of heterogeneous catalysts can be improved for this reaction.
