Characteristics of the disastrous debris flow of Chediguan gully in Yinxing town, Sichuan Province, on August 20, 2019

Ning Li et al.

Summary: Eleven years after the Wenchuan earthquake, a disastrous debris flow occurred in the Chediguan catchment, causing more severe losses than earlier debris flows in Yinxing town, China. It is crucial to intensify dredging activities in the main gully, repair damaged mitigation measures, and establish a real-time monitoring and early warning system to reduce the risk of future debris flow disasters.

Wettability and Lenormand's diagram

Bauyrzhan K. Primkulov et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that fluid-fluid displacement in porous media is influenced by parameters such as wettability, capillary number, and viscosity ratio, and can be divided into different displacement regimes. These displacement regimes include stable displacement, viscous fingering, invasion percolation, cooperative pore filling, and corner flow.

Capillary and viscous fracturing during drainage in porous media

Francisco J. Carrillo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the transition from fluid invasion to fracturing in soft porous media under various conditions, using a newly developed multiphase Darcy-Brinkman-Biot framework. Three distinct material failure regimes were identified, controlled by nondimensional numbers quantifying the balance of viscous, capillary, and structural forces. This study effectively decouples the effects of viscous and capillary forces on fracturing mechanics.
