Isophotonic reactor for the precise determination of quantum yields in gas, liquid, and multi-phase photoreactions

Paul Kant et al.

Summary: This study reports a novel approach for accurately determining quantum yields based on a tailored, 3D-printable photoreactor and 3D optical modeling. The method allows for the control of the homogeneous distribution of photon absorption rate throughout the reaction volume and is applicable to any gas, liquid, or multi-phase photoreaction. The validity of the approach is demonstrated with experimental results, highlighting the importance of meticulous analysis and standardization in determining quantum yields.

Physics of Ce3 ⇆ Ce4+ electronic transition in phytosynthesized CeO2/CePO4 nanocomposites and its antibacterial activities

M. Noor et al.

Summary: The phyto-synthesized CeO2/CePO4 nanocomposites exhibit excellent physical and chemical properties, showing antibacterial effects and low cytotoxicity. The formation of these nanocomposites is induced by the presence of phosphate ions in the Artocarpus heterophyllus extract, which reduces grain growth and bandgap through redox cycling.

To decarbonize industry, we must decarbonize heat

Gregory P. Thiel et al.

Summary: The industry is a challenging sector to decarbonize due to its diverse processes, but developing zero-carbon process heating technologies can eliminate a significant portion of emissions, accounting for about one-fifth of global CO2 emissions. This article reviews industrial heat demand and costs, as well as the key challenges and R&D needs in developing zero-carbon industrial heating technologies, highlighting four pathways for technological advancements. Moreover, it identifies crosscutting challenges in the development and adoption of zero-carbon industrial heat technologies, emphasizing the need for significant breakthroughs in industrial decarbonization.

Effects of solar irradiation on thermally driven CO2 methanation using Ni/CeO2-based catalyst

Viktoria Golovanova et al.

Summary: The study utilizes solar light harvesting in the thermocatalytic approach to carbon dioxide methanation, revealing a dual effect of incident photons on the catalytic properties of the Ni/CeO2 catalyst. The approach increases the reaction rate up to 2.4 times and decreases power consumption by 20% under solar illumination, replacing conventional thermal activation with a green energy source.
