Heteroepitaxial Control of Fermi Liquid, Hund Metal, and Mott Insulator Phases in Single-Atomic-Layer Ruthenates

Jeong Rae Kim et al.

Summary: Interfaces between dissimilar correlated oxides can be controlled to generate different electronic phases. In atomic-scale ruthenate-titanate heterostructures, three distinct correlated phases have been realized using atomic-scale epitaxy and photoemission spectroscopy. The theoretical analysis suggests that atomic-scale structural proximity effects play a crucial role in controlling the electronic phases.

Sign-tunable anomalous Hall effect induced by two-dimensional symmetry-protected nodal structures in ferromagnetic perovskite thin films

Byungmin Sohn et al.

Summary: Magnetism and spin-orbit coupling play crucial roles in topological transport phenomena in itinerant ferromagnets. Two-dimensional systems may have stable nodal structures, and perovskite oxides generally support symmetry-protected nodal lines and points in their spin-polarized band structures.

Observation of metallic electronic structure in a single-atomic-layer oxide

Byungmin Sohn et al.

Summary: While transition metal oxides typically become insulators in the single-atomic-layer limit, a correlated metallic state has been found in a single-atomic layer of epitaxial SrRuO3, demonstrating tunability in the electronic phase of single-atomic-layer oxides and the potential for rich phases in two-dimensional correlated electron systems.

Hund Physics Landscape of Two-Orbital Systems

Siheon Ryee et al.

Summary: Motivated by the discovery of superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelates, this study investigates the role of Hund coupling J in a quarter-filled two-orbital Hubbard model. The results reveal distinctive regimes of correlated metals, with one related to Mott insulator proximity. Defines criteria for characterizing these metals, establishing the existence of Hund metallicity in two-orbital systems.

Differentiating Hund from Mott physics in a three-band Hubbard-Hund model: Temperature dependence of spectral, transport, and thermodynamic properties

K. M. Stadler et al.

Summary: In this study, the interaction between Hund physics and Mott physics in the Hubbard-Hund model is investigated, with numerous fingerprints identified in the temperature dependence of various physical quantities to distinguish Hundness from Mottness. The behavior of these quantities within the context of a simple model Hamiltonian can help in experimental and theoretical studies of distinguishing Hundness from Mottness in real materials.
