Scoping review of the applications of peptide microarrays on the fight against human infections

Arthur Vengesai et al.

Summary: This scoping review explores the use of peptide microarrays in the fight against infectious diseases. The majority of the studies focused on mapping B-cell epitopes and diagnosing infections, while a smaller proportion investigated immunosignature characterization and viral/bacterial binding assays. Peptide microarrays were found to be valuable tools in identifying diagnostic and vaccine targets, as well as antimicrobial peptides.

Antigenic diversity of MASP gene family of Trypanosoma cruzi

Ana Carolina Leao et al.

Summary: Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent of Chagas disease, exhibits high genetic and phenotypic diversity. The MASP family, located on the surface of T. cruzi, is involved in host-parasite interaction. Recombinant MASP proteins were used to investigate their immunogenicity in mice infected with different strains of T. cruzi. Flow cytometry analysis showed changes in MASP recognition profile during infection.

The role of chromatin loop extrusion in antibody diversification

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: Cohesin-mediated chromatin loop extrusion plays a crucial role in the development and maturation of B cells, facilitating V(D)J recombination and class-switch recombination by presenting gene segments to RAG endonuclease. These processes are essential for immune responses.

Host-parasite dynamics in Chagas disease from systemic to hyper-local scales

Damian Perez-Mazliah et al.

Summary: Trypanosoma cruzi is a versatile parasite that can parasitize almost any nucleated cell type and naturally infects a variety of mammal species, causing Chagas disease. While a large number of people are infected, around two thirds of them remain long-term asymptomatic carriers. Clinical outcomes of chronic infections depend on the interactions between host and parasite.

Comparative Performance of Latest-Generation and FDA-Cleared Serology Tests for the Diagnosis of Chagas Disease

Emily A. Kelly et al.

Summary: The latest-generation CD serology tests may improve diagnostic sensitivity without affecting specificity. Reactivity and sensitivity were highest in samples from donors born in South America and lowest in specimens from those born in Mexico, with intermediate results in specimens from Central American donors.

Prediction of parasitological cure in children infected with Trypanosoma cruzi using a novel multiplex serological approach: an observational, retrospective cohort study

Laura Jurado Medina et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the MultiCruzi test as a predictive tool for parasitological cure in children with Chagas disease and found that it can predict seroreversion earlier than standard methods. In patients treated within the first year of age, MultiCruzi showed higher accuracy in predicting early seroreversion compared to traditional tests.

APRANK: Computational Prioritization of Antigenic Proteins and Peptides From Complete Pathogen Proteomes

Alejandro D. D. Ricci et al.

Summary: The availability of highly parallelized immunoassays has increased interest in the discovery of serology biomarkers for infectious diseases. A computational method called APRANK has been developed to prioritize potentially antigenic proteins and peptides in pathogens, successfully predicting antigenicity for all tested species and facilitating the identification of novel diagnostic antigens in infectious diseases.
