Elevated temperature promotes spermatozoa motility kinetics and fertilizing ability following short-term storage: An implication for artificial reproduction of common carp Cyprinus carpio in a hatchery

Songpei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of elevating temperature on the motility kinetics and fertilization ability of common carp sperm stored at 0-2 degrees C. The results showed that raising the temperature improved sperm motility and fertilization ability. This method may contribute to the artificial reproduction of economically important fish species in aquaculture.

Application of artificial seminal plasma to short-term storage of a large volume of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) sperm for two weeks under controlled conditions

Beata Irena Cejko et al.

Summary: By storing common carp sperm in artificial seminal plasma for up to two weeks, the fertilizing capacity can be maintained, providing a convenient tool for breeders to extend storage time without compromising reproductive success.

Motility and oxidative stress of common carp Cyprinus carpio sperm during short-term storage

Anna Shaliutina-Kolesova et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of refrigerated storage on sperm quality and oxidative stress in common carp. After 72 hours of storage, sperm motility significantly decreased, and after 144 hours, sperm motility was less than 40%. The levels of lipid peroxidation and protein carbonyl derivatives, indicators of oxidative stress, increased over time.

Practical use of extender and activation solutions for short-term storage of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) milt in a hatchery

Yu Cheng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of different activation solutions on aging common carp sperm stored in artificial seminal plasma. The results showed that hatchery water exhibited the highest sperm motility and velocity. Additionally, the fertilization ability of aging sperm could be improved by adding the appropriate activation solution.

Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) sperm reduction during short-term in vitro storage at 4 °C

Yu Cheng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to optimize a short-term storage protocol for common carp sperm at 4 degrees C under aerobic condition. Results showed that dilution ratios of 1:1 and 2:1 with selected extenders maintained higher sperm function and longer sperm survival. The best sperm quality and quantity were observed in common carp seminal plasma supplemented with 50 mM NaCl and Cejko extender, with or without additional 25 mM KCl/NaCl.

Short-term storage-induced changes in the proteome of carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) spermatozoa

Mariola A. Dietrich et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of short-term storage on carp sperm proteome, revealing a decrease in sperm quality, increase in oxidative stress, and significant alterations in protein composition. The findings offer important insights into the mechanisms of sperm damage and potential protein markers for future research in aquaculture.
