A computational study on structural and thermal behavior of modified disk brake rotors

M. H. Pranta et al.

Summary: The brake mechanism is an essential and crucial safety component in automobiles. This study presents the development of a modified ventilated disk brake rotor with curved vents, holes, and slots, and analyzes its stress and temperature distribution. The proposed rotor design outperforms the conventional one in terms of stress generation, temperature distribution, and factor of safety. Additionally, a computational analysis is conducted to determine the best-suited material for one of the proposed designs.

Process Optimization of Automotive Brake Material in Dry Sliding Using Taguchi and ANOVA Techniques for Wear Control

Ashish Saurabh et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the load-dependent wear behavior of copper-free semi-metallic brake material. The study reveals that the normal load has the greatest impact on the wear process, followed by sliding velocity and sliding distance. The optimum condition for minimum wear rate is determined to be a normal load of 40 N, sliding distance of 1500 m, and sliding velocity of 3.14 m/s.
