Virtual reality and haptic interfaces for civilian and military open trauma surgery training: A systematic review

Colin F. Mackenzie et al.

Summary: Through a systematic literature review, it was found that there is currently insufficient evidence to show that virtual, augmented, mixed reality, or haptic interfaces can effectively facilitate training for open trauma surgery or replace cadavers. The study design quality is low, sample sizes are small, and there is a risk of reporting bias.

A Novel Three-Dimensional Interactive Virtual Face to Facilitate Facial Anatomy Teaching Using Microsoft HoloLens

Narendra Kumar et al.

Summary: The article introduces the use of a mixed reality virtual face model to facilitate complex anatomy teaching in various educational settings using Microsoft HoloLens. The close-range photogrammetry technique was used to construct a virtual face that clearly demonstrated individual layers of the face and relevant clinically significant structures. It can be utilized as an additional teaching tool in anatomy learning across undergraduate, postgraduate, and continued medical education.

Development of a Virtual Three-Dimensional Assessment Scenario for Anatomical Education

Katerina Bogomolova et al.

Summary: In response to the misalignment between learning and assessment in anatomical education, the development of a virtual 3D assessment scenario is highlighted. Through real-time interaction, assessors and examinees use HoloLens to share the same 3D augmented reality model for knowledge assessment.

HoloLens and mobile augmented reality in medical and health science education: A randomised controlled trial

Christian Moro et al.

Summary: Augmented reality technology has the potential to enhance learning in physiology and anatomy in medical and health sciences education. This study found that both HoloLens and mobile-based augmented reality were effective for learning, despite a slight increase in dizziness reported with HoloLens usage. The study supports the adoption of augmented reality methods in health sciences and medicine education.
