Stigma in a Collectivistic Culture: Social Network of Female Sex Workers in China

Summary: The study found that Chinese collectivism among mid-age female sex workers was negatively associated with social support, network diversity, and network bridging potential. This negative association was attenuated among participants who perceived more sex work stigma. In a collective culture, having a less interconnected social network may provide FSWs with an advantage in coping with stigma and securing social support.

Predictors of Stigma and Health-Related Quality of Life Among People Living with HIV in Northern Thailand

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with HIV-related stigma and discrimination and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among people living with HIV in rural Thailand. The findings showed that being married and having a longer duration of antiretroviral therapy were negatively correlated with HIV stigma, while increased age was inversely associated with HRQoL. Additionally, being employed and having sufficient money for living positively contributed to predicting HRQoL.

HIV and Contact Tracing: Impact of a Virtual Patient Simulation Activity

The experience of anxiety among Chinese undergraduate nursing students in the later period of their internships: findings from a qualitative study

Summary: This study aimed to understand the anxiety experienced by undergraduate nursing students in the later period of their internship periods in a Chinese educational context. The study revealed that undergraduate nursing students were prone to anxiety during the later period of their clinical internships. Specific sources of anxiety encompassed career decision-making, job pursuit, graduation, and licensure examination. Undergraduate nursing students adopted both positive and negative approaches in coping with anxiety during the later period of their clinical internships. Nursing educators and administrators should develop appropriate instructions and support systems to reduce anxiety among undergraduate nursing students.

Stress and Coping in Nurses Taking Care of People Living with HIV in Hunan, China: A Descriptive Qualitative Study

Summary: This study explored the stress experiences and coping strategies among nurses taking care of people living with HIV in China. The main sources of stress included concerns about occupational exposure, heavy workload, mental health problems and risk behaviors of patients, and discrimination towards nurses caring for HIV patients. The negative impact of stress included problems with emotion regulation, somatic health and sleep, and work performance. Common coping strategies employed by nurses included using personality strengths, problem-solving, help-seeking, concealing and avoiding/suppression.

Summary: The study found that private primary care doctors in Hong Kong have low involvement in HIV prevention and care, with most providing advice and HIV testing, but a lower proportion diagnosing HIV, providing care for HIV positive patients, reporting HIV cases, or prescribing antiretrovirals. Factors associated with higher involvement included being in the 50-59 age group and belonging to a large practice.

Towards a new understanding of HIV-related stigma in the era of efficient treatment- A qualitative reconceptualization of existing theory

Summary: This study aimed to further develop the HIV stigma framework by exploring the experiences of HIV-related stigma among people living with viral suppression in Sweden. Findings revealed that anticipated and enacted stigma were more complex than previously described, and being labelled as a person with HIV was a key aspect of the stigma experience. Disclosure of HIV status was found to be context-related and influenced by the perception of HIV as a private matter.

Nurses' experience of caring for people living with HIV: a focused ethnography
