Experimental investigation of rock-shotcrete interface damage under dynamic splitting using digital image correlation and acoustic emission

Xudong Chen et al.

Summary: This article conducted experiments to study the interface crack propagation and damage characteristics in rock-concrete structures. The results showed significant strain rate effects on peak load and critical displacement, as well as more sufficient and stable damage evolution under low loading rate. The study also found that the splitting damage at the rock-shotcrete interface exhibited phased characteristics, with intensified damage near the peak load indicated by the surge of the AE signal.

Tensile over-saturated cracking of Ultra-High-Strength Engineered Cementitious Composites (UHS-ECC) with artificial geopolymer aggregates

Ling-Yu Xu et al.

Summary: Ultra-High-Strength Engineered Cementitious Composites (UHS-ECC) with artificial geopolymer aggregates (GPA) were developed, showing over-saturated cracking and double-stage crack evolution. The UHS-ECC exhibited high compressive strength (over 150 MPa) and high tensile ductility (over 8%). The influences of GPA size on matrix properties, tensile performance, micromechanics, and cracking behavior were investigated, revealing the mechanism of over-saturated cracking and double-stage crack evolution.

High-strength high-ductility Engineered/Strain-Hardening Cementitious Composites (ECC/SHCC) incorporating geopolymer fine aggregates

Ling-Yu Xu et al.

Summary: The geopolymer fine aggregates enhance the tensile ductility and crack width of high-strength ECC, reacting and bonding strongly with the cementitious matrix to create saturated multiple cracking and excellent tensile ductility. This study opens up a new avenue for the development of high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites based on artificial geopolymer aggregates.

Countermeasures against large deformation of deep-buried soft rock tunnels in areas with high geostress: A case study

Huang-Shi Deng et al.

Summary: This study used the Dapingshan tunnel as an example to analyze the causes of large deformation in deep-buried tunnels with soft surrounding rocks in high-geostress areas. Through laboratory tests and displacement back analysis, it was identified that high geostress and poor self-stability of argillaceous sandstone contributed to the large deformation. The optimization scheme was found to reduce tunnel convergence and eliminate large deformation.

Summary: This study investigates the behavior of reinforced concrete columns retrofitted with ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) jackets and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) wraps under different loading conditions. The results show that the load-carrying capacity and ductility of the columns improve significantly after retrofitting, particularly for higher eccentricities.

Flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete beams using geopolymer-bonded small-diameter CFRP bars

Kai-Di Peng et al.

Summary: This study proposed and investigated a strengthening system for reinforced concrete members using geopolymer-bonded small diameter carbon fiber-reinforced polymer bars. The results showed that FRGM system with geopolymer bonding had similar strengthening efficiency as epoxy-bonded FRGM layer. Using short fibers in the geopolymer matrix further improved the crack control capacity for the strengthening system.
