Beyond the species name: an analysis of publication trends and biases in taxonomic descriptions of rainfrogs (Amphibia, Strabomantidae, Pristimantis)

Carolina Reyes-Puig et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the descriptions of 591 Pristimantis species published to date, examining various details such as authorship, language, and country. The findings reveal the increasing participation of Latin American researchers since the 1990s, despite John D. Lynch and William E. Duellman being the most prolific authors. English is the most commonly used language for descriptions, followed by Spanish. Additionally, Ecuador stands out as the primary country for species descriptions, while female representation in the field remains low.

Evaluating the efficacy of visual encounter and automated acoustic survey methods in anuran assemblages of the Yungas Andean forests of Argentina

M. Boullhesen et al.

Summary: Using passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) as a method for surveying anuran species in Andean forests was found to be effective. Acoustic indices such as ACI, ADI, AEI, Bio, H, and M were reliable tools for reflecting the calling species diversity in forest habitats with varying levels of biophony in subtropical regions. However, long-term monitoring programs should be combined with Visual Encounter Survey (VES) to accurately assess anuran diversity along altitudinal gradients.
