Schistocerca neuropeptides-An update

Summary: We compiled a comprehensive list of neuropeptide genes in Schistocerca gregaria and identified putative mature peptides processed in its nervous system using mass spectrometry. The neuropeptidome of S. gregaria is similar to other polyneopteran species and shows conservation of neuropeptidergic gene set typical of insects. This study provides valuable information for the study of other polyneopteran species.

Amitraz, a commonly used acaricide, has shown resistance in many countries but not in the Philippines. Prudent use of amitraz is recommended to prevent potential development of resistance.

Effect of essential oils against acaricide-susceptible and acaricide-resistant Rhipicephalus ticks

The silence of ADGal led to downregulation of genes involved in galactose metabolism in tick, showing a significant reduction in alpha-gal levels in tick salivary glands. However, beta-1,4GalT-silenced tick salivary glands did not show significant difference in alpha-gal levels, providing insight into their roles in alpha-gal production and presentation in ticks and the probable involvement in the onset of AGS.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the neuronal projection patterns of olfactory sensilla from Haller's organ to the olfactory lobes of Amblyomma sculptum adults and perform 3D reconstruction of the glomeruli. The results showed that the neuronal projections were confined to the olfactory lobes, organized into glomeruli, with males and females presenting corresponding round-shaped glomeruli. Positive correlations were observed between glomeruli volumes within and between sexes. This is the first report on the 3D reconstruction of the olfactory lobes of a tick species.

Climatic suitability of the eastern paralysis tick, Ixodes holocyclus, and its likely geographic distribution in the year 2050

Summary: The study used data collected over the past two decades to create several hundred ecological niche models for predicting the current and future potential distribution of the eastern paralysis tick in Australia. The best-fitting model matched the known distribution and predicted extension to coastal areas in the south and up to the Kimbolton peninsula in Western Australia in the north. The future distribution in 2050 showed a moderate increase in suitability in some areas but also a moderate to low loss of suitable areas in other regions.
