Hepatorenal Index by B-Mode Ratio Versus Imaging and Fatty Liver Index to Diagnose Steatosis in Alcohol-Related and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Maria Kjaergaard et al.

Summary: The accuracy of the hepatorenal index by B-mode ratio in diagnosing hepatic steatosis was evaluated in this study. The results showed that B-mode ratio had moderate diagnostic accuracy for different degrees of steatosis, but its clinical use was limited by a high failure rate.

Accuracy of the ultrasound attenuation coefficient for the evaluation of hepatic steatosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective studies

Jong Keon Jang et al.

Summary: Accurate detection and quantification of hepatic steatosis are crucial for managing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. In this study, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the accuracy of ultrasound-measured attenuation coefficient (AC) in evaluating hepatic steatosis. The results showed that AC has good diagnostic performance for assessing hepatic steatosis. However, the interpretation of results should take into account factors such as body mass index (BMI) and the prevalence of steatosis or significant fibrosis.

Assessment of hepatic steatosis by controlled attenuation parameter using the M and XL probes: an individual patient data meta-analysis

Summary: This study conducted an individual patient data meta-analysis to evaluate the diagnostic properties of hepatic steatosis using CAP. Results showed that optimal cutoffs for CAP varied according to different etiologies of liver disease. While CAP may not adequately grade steatosis in patients with NAFLD, it can effectively identify significant steatosis in patients with viral hepatitis.

IMPROVED ULTRASOUND ATTENUATION MEASUREMENT METHOD FOR THE NON-INVASIVE EVALUATION OF HEPATIC STEATOSIS USING FIBROSCAN

Stephane Audiere et al.

Summary: The study evaluated a new CAP method for assessing liver steatosis, showing improved precision ex vivo and in vivo. The new method utilizes continuous ultrasound data during imaging phase, leading to better agreement and correlation with MRI-PDFF. The diagnostic performance of the new method was found to be equal or superior to the standard method.
