On three-dimensional SPH modelling of large-scale landslides

Chong Peng et al.

Summary: This paper investigates four important issues in SPH modelling of large-scale landslides, including convergence property, influence of constitutive parameters, scale effect and friction reduction, and influence of different treatments of the viscous effect. It also provides suggestions on particle resolution, constitutive parameter, and formulations of viscous discretization for future SPH modelling of large-scale landslides.

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics for modelling landslide-water interaction problems

Abderrahmane Mahallem et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop a Weakly Compressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (WCSPH) in-house code for modelling landslide-water interaction problems. A new constitutive law is proposed to handle both landslide and water dynamics behavior to ensure strong and natural coupling between the two phases. The validation of the code shows good agreements between numerical results and reference data.

Two-phase fully-coupled smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model for unsaturated soils and its application to rainfall-induced slope collapse

Ruofeng Feng et al.

Summary: A new fully-coupled Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) formulation is proposed in this paper to study the influence of rainfall infiltration on slope stability. The single-layer two-phase formulation is investigated for the first time in SPH, and several methods are introduced to handle boundary conditions and stress fields. The accuracy and effectiveness of the model are validated through verification and simulation.

Three-dimensional simulations of large-scale long run-out landslides with a GPU-accelerated elasto-plastic SPH model

Can Huang et al.

Summary: Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is increasingly welcomed in geotechnical and geological community for modeling large deformation, soil failure, and landslides. In this study, a GPU-accelerated SPH model based on the Drucker-Prager yield criterion was implemented to address the low efficiency issue in modeling large-scale long run-out landslides. The effectiveness and capacity of the model were validated and demonstrated through simulations of two typical 3D cases. The model was also used to successfully simulate the Yigong avalanche and Shenzhen landslide, reproducing the complete dynamic processes and deposit details.
