Roles of exogenous plant growth regulators on phytoextraction of Cd/Pb/Zn by Sedum alfredii Hance in contaminated soils

Zhiqin Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of plant growth regulators (PGRs) to enhance the phytoextraction efficiency of hyperaccumulator Sedum alfredii Hance in contaminated soils. Various PGRs, including ABA, SL, IAA, BR, and GA(3), were found to significantly improve biomass and metal uptake of S. alfredii. ABA showed the highest Cd removal efficiency, while GA(3) exhibited the maximum Pb and Zn removal efficiency. Overall, these PGRs have great potential in improving phytoremediation efficiency in contaminated soils.

GLDA and EDTA assisted phytoremediation potential of Sedum hybridum 'Immergrunchen' for Cd and Pb contaminated soil

Haiyan Guan et al.

Summary: Exogenous application of chelants is a common way to enhance the phytoextraction of heavy metals. In this study, Sedum hybridum 'Immergrunchen' showed high tolerance to Pb treatment, followed by Cd-Pb treatment, but was sensitive to Cd stress. EDTA treatment was more harmful to plant growth than that of GLDA treatment. The enhanced phytoremediation of GLDA to Cd and Pb co-contaminated soil was better than that of EDTA.

Rhizobium rhizogenes-mediated root proliferation in Cd/Zn hyperaccumulator Sedum alfredii and its effects on plant growth promotion, root exudates and metal uptake efficiency

Zulfiqar Ali Sahito et al.

Summary: The study established a Rhizobium rhizogenes-mediated root proliferation system in Sedum alfredii. Strain AS12556 was found to be the most effective in promoting root growth and enhancing metal extraction efficiency in the plant. The results suggest that the R. rhizogenes system can be utilized for optimizing metal extraction from contaminated soils.

Determination and Mapping of Regional Change of Pb and Cr Pollution in Ankara City Center

Mehmet Cetin et al.

Summary: As residential areas continue to expand in Turkey, environmental pollution, especially heavy metal pollution, has become a major concern. This study focused on mapping the pollution levels of lead (Pb) and chromium (Cr) in the city center of Ankara, Turkey using topsoil samples. The results showed that the highest concentration of Cr was found in the northwest-southeast axis of the study area, while the highest concentration of Pb was located in the center of the study area, specifically in the west of Sincan town.

Leaching characteristic of potentially toxic metals of artificial soil made from municipal sludge compost

Feili Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the migration behavior of heavy metals in artificial soil made from municipal sludge compost, and found that EDTA treatment enhanced the leach index of heavy metals. The retention of heavy metals in subsoil was related to properties of local soil and its interaction with leachate, with cadmium being the main contributor to ecological risk.

Haiyin Xu et al.

Summary: Enhanced electrokinetic remediation (EKR) can rapidly remediate heavy metal-contaminated clay, but its impact on soil micro-ecology is rarely evaluated. Nitric acid and acetic acid treatment significantly improved Cd removal, while also reducing soil enzyme activity, especially nitric acid treatment. Different treatments had varying effects on soil bacterial communities, with acetic acid treatment increasing diversity.
