Ammonia removal through combined methane oxidation and nitrification-denitrification and the interactions among functional microorganisms

Qin Cao et al.

Summary: The study explored the utilization of methane produced by anaerobic digestion as a carbon source for nitrogenous contaminant removal in wastewater treatment. The results indicated that coupling methane oxidation with nitrate/nitrite denitrification was beneficial in achieving higher ammonia removal rates. Analysis of microbial communities revealed the presence of methanotrophs and heterotrophic nitrification-aerobic denitrification bacteria in the system.

Summary: This study investigated the composition and denitrification performance of six types of agricultural wastes. The results showed that carbon release followed second-order kinetics, with corncob (CC) having the lowest risks of excessive COD effluent. CC also demonstrated the best nitrogen removal capacity and lower accumulation of pollutants during denitrification compared to others.

Effect of co-digestion of tylosin fermentation dreg and food waste on anaerobic digestion performance

Ming Gao et al.

Summary: This study found that adding different proportions of food waste to tylosin fermentation dreg can significantly increase methane production, with pH, total volatile fatty acids, and acetic acid being the most important factors affecting cumulative methane production. Tylosin can be effectively removed through co-digestion, with a total removal rate of 68.2%-83.7%.

Application of Internal Carbon Source from Sewage Sludge: A Vital Measure to Improve Nitrogen Removal Efficiency of Low C/N Wastewater

Huacai Wang et al.

Summary: Biological nitrogen removal from wastewater is widely used due to its high efficiency and relatively low cost, but the insufficient carbon source and excess sludge issues still exist. Emerging technologies can obtain internal organic carbon resource from sludge and improve nitrogen removal of low carbon/nitrogen wastewater, emphasizing the recovery of nitrogen and phosphorus from treated sludge for recycling as an internal carbon source.
