Usability of brass and stainless steel electrodes in electrochemical treatment of 4-nitrophenol

Ismail Simsek

Summary: In this study, an electrochemical method was used to treat an aqueous solution containing 4NP. A stainless steel electrode was used as the anode, allowing both electro-oxidation and electrocoagulation to occur, while a brass electrode was used as the cathode. The removal efficiencies of 4NP and TOC were determined under optimum operating conditions, and the most effective parameters in the electrochemical treatment were identified as current and time, respectively. The energy consumption required for electrochemical treatment of 1 m3 of wastewater was calculated.

A critical review on the treatment of dye-containing wastewater: Ecotoxicological and health concerns of textile dyes and possible remediation approaches for environmental safety

Rania Al-Tohamy et al.

Summary: The synthetic dyes used in the textile industry cause pollution in water bodies, which has negative consequences on the environment and human health. It is important to effectively treat dye-containing wastewater using eco-friendly technologies to reduce contamination of aquatic habitats and natural water resources. This review discusses the effects of textile dyes on water bodies, aquatic flora, and human health, and compares various technologies for removing dyes from textile wastewater.

Degradation of Azo Dyes with Different Functional Groups in Simulated Wastewater by Electrocoagulation

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: There is increasing concern about the contamination of azo dyes in water bodies worldwide. These chemicals can be highly toxic and potentially carcinogenic. This study focused on the treatment of two typical azo dyes using periodically reverse electrocoagulation (PREC), with Fe-Fe electrodes. The results showed that the reaction time was the main factor influencing the color removal rates, and the PREC treatment for one dye was found to be time-saving and energy-efficient.
