Analysis of 20 year data for the assessment of dietary exposure to chemical contaminants in the region of Thessaly, Greece

E. Malissiova et al.

Summary: Food safety is a crucial concern for consumers today, as they are exposed to various hazardous agents through their diet. This study aimed to evaluate the dietary exposure of the general population to different chemical contaminants by combining questionnaire-based food consumption data with concentration levels of these chemicals in food. The findings indicated that the examined sample adhered to several elements of the Mediterranean diet and that chemical contaminants in Greek food were generally below acceptable limits. Cereals, fish, fruit, vegetables, and alcohol were identified as the main contributors to human chemical exposure. Gender and age were found to affect overall dietary intake of pollutants, with women and elderly individuals showing higher exposure. The study emphasizes the importance of monitoring chemical contaminant levels in all food categories to accurately assess the risk of human exposure.

Enhancing cadmium extraction potential of Brassica napus: Effect of rhizosphere interactions

Longcheng Li et al.

Summary: The study found that intercropping oilseed rape with daikon resulted in decreased shoot and root biomass, while intercropping with white lupin increased the dry biomass of oilseed rape. Intercropping with daikon enhanced the shoot Cd concentration of oilseed rape, while intercropping with white lupin increased the uptake of Cd by oilseed rape. The results suggest that intercropping with white lupin may contribute to higher biomass and increased Cd uptake by oilseed rape.

Potential risks from the accumulation of heavy metals in canola plants

Ahmed Ali Romeh

Summary: The study revealed that heavy metal contamination in agricultural land and canola crops has exceeded safe levels, posing potential threats to human health. Bees have the ability to transfer some heavy metals from canola to their hives, while the risk of human ingestion of honey is relatively low.

Powdered and beaded lemon peels-doped iron (III) oxide-hydroxide materials for lead removal applications: Synthesis, characterizations, and lead adsorption studies

Arpassorn Threepanich et al.

Summary: Lead removal is crucial due to its toxic effects on aquatic organisms and human health. Lemon peel-doped iron (III) oxide-hydroxide materials showed high lead removal efficiencies, with LPFB demonstrating the highest potential for lead adsorption at 100%. The adsorption kinetics of all materials followed a Pseudo-second order model, indicating the effectiveness of the doping metal oxide in improving material efficiencies.
